Marshall was gunning for a sixth title

Alex Marshall and Paul Foster fell victim to shock results at the World Indoor Bowls Championships.

Five-time former winner, and reigning champion, Marshall was beaten in two sets, 8-7 8-6, by England's number 16 seed Simon Skelton in the singles.

Foster, a three-times winner at the Potters Leisure Resort, lost 9-2 4-7 1-2 to Billy Jackson.

Sixth seed Mark Royal avoided a shock in the opening match, enjoying a 4-9 8-6 2-0 win over Kelvin Kerkow.
