Guernsey's bowls team won the McKernan Trophy at the bowls Inter-insulars in Jersey last weekend - their first victory in Jersey for 19 years.

The McKernan Trophy is a team challenge competed over six rinks with four players per team.

Eight under-21 players from Guernsey took part, and eventually won a tactical victory 119-106.

Guernsey Bowls' Paul Ingrouille said: "All in all, this was an excellent weekend for Guernsey Bowls."

Some excellent drawing saw Richard Hill pick up the senior title against David Bowyer, winning the match 21-12.

Thomas Mahy, 14, missed out on the under-18 title after defeat to Jersey's Malcolm de Sousa.

The mother and son team Sue and Neal Mollet went all the way to the wire in the mixed doubles and missed out on the title by a single shot.

And a Jersey comeback stole victory from the Guernsey Rebels Threes team, while the Guernsey Fours side came from behind to win the title in another close battle.
