Alison Merrien secured a place in the semi-finals of the World Indoor Cup in Australia after beating Spain's Lynne Metcalfe in straight sets.

The 33-year-old won 10-4 and 13-1 to set up a semi-final clash against Australia's Karen Murphy whom she lost out to in her last group match.

"I am looking forward to the rematch," said Merrien.

At the same competition husband Ian Merrien defeated Sandy Wotherspoon from Scotland to finish in ninth position.
