Chapman will be out for the rest of the season with a ruptured Achilles |
Newcastle Eagles are urgently looking for cover after injury ruled guard Joe Chapman out for the rest of the season. The 26-year-old ruptured his Achilles tendon in Friday's 100-81 win against the Cheshire Jets, joining player-coach Fab Flournoy on the absent list. "We won't see him back in an Eagles vest between now and the summer," Eagles' managing director Paul Blake said of Chapman's injury. "We are now working to bring someone else in and build the roster." Blake added: "We can't operate with these numbers." Flournoy continues to recover from pneumonia at home, having been discharged from hospital on Friday. | CHAPMAN STATS - 2010-11 GAMES: 18 MINUTES - 578 POINTS - 357 |
"While it's sport and these things happen from time to time, the most disappointing thing is that we already have Fab missing with a serious injury as well as young guys like Ross Wilson and Jamie Glen," Blake continued. "It affects the guys in practice during the week, not just in games." Chapman arrived at Newcastle from Mexican basketball side Cabelleros de Culiacan at the beginning of the 2010-11 season, and has experience in the Czech Republic and US college basketball. Eagles completed a successful weekend on the court with Saturday's win against Cheshire Jets, and a 77-76 defeat of Scottish Rocks on Sunday.
