Leicester Riders turned on the style in the final period to ease past Worthing Thunder 82-69 and join four teams on 12 points in the BBL Championship table. Tom Sherlock scored all 16 of his points in a decisive run which took the match from 57-57 to the comfortable final scoreline for the home team. Sherlock scored a three-pointer on the third-quarter buzzer to make it 60-57. He then scored five points in an 11-4 burst, which took the score to 73-63 and Thunder could not fight back. The match at the John Sandford Centre - the only game to survive the weather in the BBL on Saturday night - saw Riders level on points with third-placed Guildford, Sheffield Sharks, Glasgow Rocks and Newcastle Eagles. But the expected home win was in serious doubt after a fiercely-fought opening three periods. An 11-0 run enabled Thunder to take the first quarter 17-19 after being 17-8 down and they scored the first seven points of the second quarter to go 38-27 up. By half-time Riders trailed 45-37 and despite falling behind again by double-digits (50-39), they clawed back to lead 53-52 on the back of two three-pointers and an assist from Ryan Zamroz. The visitors once again held their own in the third quarter but Riders dominated the final stanza to romp home against a Worthing side who remain second bottom of the table.
