MK Lions chief executive Vince Macaulay says the club still hope to play at Arena MK some time in the future. The Lions are set to unveil their new home in Winterhill for Sunday's visit of Essex Pirates after building work on Arena MK was delayed. Macaulay told BBC Three Counties Radio: "It's unfortunate it hasn't been ready for us in time. "It just meant we had to find somewhere where we knew where we were going to be for the short to medium term." After finding out they would no longer be able to play home games at Middleton Hall Shopping Centre at the end of last season, Macaulay's side have had to work quickly to get planning permission and bring their new warehouse venue up to scratch. MK have restricted their home games in the British Basketball League so far this season, but have used facilities in Stoke Mandeville when needed. | The last few months they've never seen our fans because they've never played at home, they don't know if we've got any MK Lions chief executive Vince Macaulay |
But finally Lions fans get to see their team play in their new building for the first time. "We've got a three to five year lease on the property, it's just an opportunity to stop and take breath," Macaulay said. "Having played at Stoke Mandeville, the shopping centre and Bletchley, for us to continue what we've done without a home base is pretty awesome. "We've got a lot of new players in this year from all over the world and England. "The last few months they've never seen our fans because they've never played at home, they don't know if we've got any." MK are 10th in the BBL having played four games, three less than leaders Cheshire Jets.
