Leicester Riders buoyed by spirited display

Rob Paternostro
It's important to keep our composure and make sure we take care of the ball. Last time we played we gave them too many points of turnovers

Rob Paternostro on facing Chester

Leicester Riders coach Rob Paternostro wants his side to build on the spirited display in last week's BBL Trophy semi-final second-leg against Guildford.

Riders, who are at Chester Jets in the BBL Cup quarter-final on Sunday, won 94-87 but their 20-point reverse in the first leg proved too great an obstacle.

But Paternostro said: "I was impressed with the way our guys competed.

"Unfortunately they made some key plays when they had too and were able to hold off our charge."

Jets beat Riders 71-66 in a BBL Championship match-up three weeks ago and Paternostro is wary of the threat Paul Smith's side pose.

"Cheshire have had a great start in the league, whenever I have seen them they have played intelligent basketball," Paternostro said.

"I thought [Jeremy] Bell played well last time against us, and Matthew Schneck was very effective in the paint.

"It seems like all we have played are trophy and cup games so far, so we will be used to it.

"It's important to keep our composure and make sure we take care of the ball. Last time we played we gave them too many points off turnovers, we need to improve in that area to get a result."
