Mark Yeates scored twice for struggling Sheffield United but ended the night disappointed as he gifted Leicester a late penalty to earn the Foxes a draw.
Paul Gallagher's free-kick gave City an early lead after Kyle Bartley was fouled on the edge of the area.
A counter-attack by Yeates and Andy Reid stretched the home defence with Yeates finding the net, and his second was a fine free-kick before half-time.
Late on he was penalised for handball and Steve Howard netted from the spot.
Martyn Waghorn had already gone close for Leicester before he was fouled for the early free-kick which put Sven-Goran Eriksson's side in front.
Bartley brought him down on the edge of the box and Gallagher curled the resulting free-kick into the top-left corner of Steve Simonsen's net.
Foxes skipper Andy King had a chance to make it 2-0 but Kyle Naughton's over-hit pass allowed keeper Simonsen to gather the ball at the midfielder's feet.
On 28 minutes United finally threatened as Yeates curled a weak shot into the arms of Leicester keeper Chris Weale, but it was not long before the Blades got on the scoresheet.
Reid and Yeates had a two-on-one break and Reid took the ball into the area before squaring for a tap-in finish for Yeates.
His second goal, four minutes before the break, was a more spectacular effort, as he fired home a fine free-kick after being fouled by Curtis Davies.
Finding themselves behind at half-time, Leicester brought on strikers Howard and Lloyd Dyer in place of Waghorn and Darius Vassell, but this did not make much difference.
Goalkeeper Simonsen was rarely tested, but in injury-time Leicester's persistence was rewarded as Yeates was deemed to have handled the ball, and Howard put his penalty into the bottom-left corner to earn his side a point.
