Maudsley upbeat despite latest Derby Trailblazers loss

Derby Trailblazers head coach Jamie Maudsley says his side are showing signs of improvement despite being bottom of the EBL Division One table.

Saturday's 94-87 defeat by Brixton was their fourth in as many league games.

But Maudsley said: "I was definitely more pleased with the performance than when we played them three weeks ago.

"We were in the game, but didn't do a good enough job of executing down the stretch and it's another loss when we need to be winning."

The Trailblazers were in contention throughout and were leading 83-82 with just over two minutes remaining.

But poor shot selection and a trio of turnovers down the stretch meant Derby were unable see the game out.

Martyn Gayle top-scored with 24 points but was unable to prevent Maudsley's men from suffering another defeat.

"We had some good runs and we responded well when they produced a push in the second quarter," added Maudsley.

"Unfortunately they made another run in the last couple of minutes and we didn't give ourselves an opportunity to get back into the game, which was frustrating.

"When we were up by a point with just over two minutes left, we missed some shots that I wouldn't expect us to miss, we turned the ball over too much and we didn't do a good job of shutting down the guys we highlighted."

The Trailblazers travel to London Leopards on Saturday.
