Paternostro's side have been in superb form in recent weeks |
Leicester Riders suffered their first defeat in nine games on Sunday, going down 92-82 to the Cheshire Jets. But Riders, who beat Worcester 82-76 on Saturday to net a club-record eighth consecutive win, remain fourth in the BBL table - six points above Jets. And despite Sunday's reverse at the Northgate Arena, Riders still look well set for a top-four spot and a home play-off quarter-final. Leicester are also level with Glasgow Rocks in third place on 40 points. Rob Paternostro's Riders side never looked like extending their winning run against the Jets. The hosts dominated the first three periods thanks to bursts of 11-2 and 14-6, and they held a 20-point cushion going into the fourth quarter. Riders upped their game in the final stages, winning the fourth quarter 30-20. Jason Johnson was the driving force, firing the visitors back into the game with 13 points and 21 points overall but their response was too late. On Saturday, Riders saw off a spirited Worcester side 82-76 at the John Sandford Centre, thanks to a 10-4 run in the last three minutes. Riders led by 11 points in the third period only to be pegged back to 72-72 late in the fourth. But Leicester won through with Bradd Wierzbicki leading their scorers with 17 points.
