Worcester Wolves ran British Basketball League leaders Newcastle all the way before going down to an 82-77 defeat. The Eagles led 46-43 at half time but the home side wrestled back the initiative and took a 59-58 advantage into the final quarter. The visitors edged back in front with a 4-0 run to start the fourth period before stretching their to 65-73 with four minutes left to play. And from there, they were able to hold on and secure the win. "We gave ourselves a good chance after the third quarter but at the start of the last 10 minutes Newcastle's offence and defence was much better than ours," said Worcester coach Paul James. "We replied with some individual plays and when we got back to team-ball we gave ourselves a chance. "In the end Newcastle are a very tough team to beat."
