Bath continued their recent resurgence with a comfortable win against Worcester in the Guinness Premiership.

The visitors stunned the home fans with an early try from Willie Walker but two excellent scores from winger Joe Maddock put Bath in front.

Tom Wood was sent off for the visitors in the second half for a second yellow-card offence and Bath made them pay.

Further tries from Matt Banahan, Michael Claassens and back-row forward Jonny Faamatuainu sealed the victory.

Fly-half Walker bagged all of Worcester's points - a try, the ensuing conversion and two penalties - but the Warriors remain deep in relegation trouble.

They are just one point above bottom club Leeds Carnegie, having gone almost five months without a league win and 10 months since recording a Premiership triumph on the road.

It means their six-season stay in English rugby's top flight is under huge threat, suggesting a trip to Leeds on 25 April will assume huge significance.

Bath though, can head to title contenders Saracens next weekend knowing that another success would inch them closer towards an improbable play-off challenge following their early-season struggles.

The hosts will take further confidence after Olly Barkley, who suffered a broken leg during pre-season training last summer, made his first appearance of the season - featuring for the final 30 minutes at inside centre.

Bath head coach Steve Meehan:
"I was impressed with our tempo and endeavour. It was a great example of running onto the ball at pace, which is very difficult to stop when we are in that sort of mood.

"We want to enjoy ourselves, and we are going out there and doing that.

"It was a pretty good team performance. It is all down to confidence and being happy to move the ball around the field. If you move the ball in space, it makes it hard work for the defence."

Worcester boss Mike Ruddock:
"Tom (Wood) let his frustration boil over, and he has apologised to his team-mates.

"He was pulled out of a maul, was roughed up on the floor, and he has reacted to that. It is a harsh lesson for us.

"It is a dogfight for a number of teams, not just us, and we have to make home advantage count in the run-in.

"Leeds away is a big game, but nothing has really changed because that was the case before today."
