Worthing Thunder signing Evaldas Zabas set for debut

Worthing Thunder's latest signing Evaldas Zabas is set to make his debut for the club against Leicester Riders on Saturday.

The 21-year-old Lithuanian guard, who stands at 6ft 2in, signed after his release from Worcester Wolves.

Head Coach Dave Titmuss told BBC Sussex: "The great thing about him is that, though he has tremendous potential, he will produce for us now.

"I think he will probably increase the tempo of the way we play."

He added: "We actually didn't expect him to be available. I think, from our point of view, it won't be difficult to integrate him into what we're doing and he will play this Saturday."

Titmuss could be without forward Reggie Bratton who is a doubt with a bruised heel.

But he believes Thunder can cope with the 23-year-old's absence

"You have to have a squad, injuries are part of the game in any sport," said Titmuss.

"We've built some depth into our team and certainly when we went through that bad period of injuries for a good four to five weeks, other players stepped up. We did pretty well."

He is also hoping to make the most of home advantage.

"Apart from one game this year, I think we've actually performed and shown our potential on the home court," he said.

"We've had two pretty big wins against Newcastle and the Rocks earlier in the year at home.

"I think they were key wins for us. Of course, we're pretty tough on our own court and we've got tremendous support so we're not an easy proposition at Worthing Leisure Centre."
