McKnight replaces Paul James who was released at the end of last season
Fans' favourite Chad McKnight has been unveiled as basketball outfit Guildford Heat's new player-coach.
"It's a big step for me as a player and a person," said McKnight. "It's the next step in life.
"I did need to talk to my family and my high school coach. Everybody I spoke to said it was a big opportunity and they were confident that I could do it."
The 25-year-old 6ft 8in American forward has been with the club as a player for three seasons.
McKnight will continue his first team playing duties as he becomes a key part of the Heat Community Foundation.
He will also be involved on a daily basis with the Heat's Development and Community Programmes.
Heat managing director Alan McClafferty said: "Appointing Chad as player/coach was an easy decision.
"Not only is he an outstanding player but he has also the club's support and all the attributes needed to be an excellent head coach.
"His commitment to developing Guildford Heat players from under-10s to the BBL will be fundamental in helping the club achieve our goals both on and off the court."
