Will Funn sealed Wolves' win with a basket 11 seconds from time |
Worcester Wolves are up to sixth in the British Basketball League after recording their first ever win against Plymouth Raiders. Wolves sprung a surprise in the south-west to take a deserved 93-97 victory. The visitors had to fight back from a first-quarter deficit of 10 points (24-14) to take the historic victory. They trailed going into the dying moments, but - in a dramatic finish - Will Funn's basket 11 seconds from time sealed the win for the jubilant Wolves. Gaylon Moore had given the Raiders their opening period lead, but a 9-4 burst by Wolves trimmed the deficit to 28-25 at the first buzzer. Wolves took the initiative on the back of a Harry Disy bucket (37-38) and after several lead changes closed the half 53-54 up. The teams remained locked together through the early stages of the third quarter, but from 66-66 the Wolves hit a 12-4 run to head into the final stanza 70-78 on top. With Wolves star Anthony Paez in foul trouble the Raiders still could not get back to within touching distance until Drew Lasker pulled them within two at 93-95. But Funn spoiled the home supporters' hopes with his late basket.
