Riders prepare for the new season

New Leicester Riders head coach Rob Paternostro is delighted to finally have his squad training together ahead of the new BBL season.

Paternostro told BBC Radio Leicester: "You buy these guys and basically you can't play with your toys until they get here."

The Riders start their preparations by hosting a pre-season tournament.

They take on Lithuanian side Meresta on 12 September and a USA select team on 13 September.

Paternostro said he is pleased that both games are at home.

"It gives the players a good chance to experience our home court, as we don't get to practice there," he said.

Riders fans that visit the John Sandford Centre will see some familiar faces as well as some new American players who will be making their debut in the BBL.

Tommy Swanson is a 6'10" forward who was part of the development league with the NBA's San Antonio Spurs.

He told BBC Radio Leicester: "It's a very unique experience for me. I was getting into coaching back home as well as completing my degree, but this is a chance to join a club that's making a fresh start".

Matt Martin is 6'0 guard who spent the last four years at the University of Montana.

"I think we got a good group of guys here," he said.

"Although I haven't experienced the league yet it looks pretty solid and we should be right up there. I also think that the coach will put a good system in place."
