Stewart joined the Eagles from Sheffield Sharks in 2007 |
Newcastle Eagles have re-signed forward Lynard Stewart after an explosive first season with the BBL League winners. Stewart was voted Most Valuable Player for his efforts during the 2008 season and managing director Paul Blake is pleased to have tied him to the club. "It was always going to be a top priority," explained Blake. "Getting it done so quickly ahead of what will be a busy summer as always just goes to show that we intend to continue moving forward." With two final defeats, and a play-off semi-final loss, the Eagles were almost on course for a quadruple of honours in 2008. | Lynard fits into our ethos and what we are trying to do both on and off the floor |
Coach Fab Flournoy believes any repeat of their success is dependent on quality players such as Stewart pledging their loyalty to the side. "Knowing that you have a class act who will consistently deliver on all fronts is a dream as a coach. "Most importantly Lynard fits into our ethos and what we are trying to do both on and off the floor." The Pennsylvania-born product of Temple University has also played in Israel, the Czech Republic and Belgium. He also spent two seasons at the London Towers before three seasons with Sheffield Sharks.
