Chester Jets' hopes of winning the BBL title were dented when they were upset 87-84 by Thames Valley Tigers. That result allowed Newcastle Eagles to take over at the top after their 93-75 win at home to the Plymouth Raiders.
Newcastle will clinch the title if they beat Chester at home next Friday.
London Towers strengthened their grip on third place in the table with a hard-fought 78-72 win over Leicester.
Fifth-placed Brighton Bears beat Sheffield Sharks 75-65 while Milton Keynes Lions edged ahead of Plymouth in the hunt for the final play-off berth with a 73-67 win over the Birmingham Bullets.
Former Bullet Kevin Griffin returned to haunt his former club, scoring over half his side's points with a haul of 37, including eight three-pointers.
