Emms and Robertson become the first all-English pair win

The Olympic silver medallists beat friends Anthony Clark and Donna Kellogg 21-15 21-12 in the final on Sunday.

Their victory marked the first time an all-English pair has won the event.

Later on Sunday Clark and Robert Blair lost to top seeds Cai Yun and Fu Haifeng of China 21-9 21-13 in the final of the men's doubles.

Last year Emms and Robertson were the world number one-ranked pair but had to withdraw from the event when Robertson injured his ankle.

"This was one of the medals we desperately wanted," he said afterwards.

"It was fantastic to have an all-English final, but strange and difficult to be playing the people we train against and share rooms with."

"There was so much on this match. We haven't lost to an English pair in six years and we didn't want our first defeat to come today."

Clark said he and Kellogg just could not match their training partners.

"They know us so well that it was difficult to come up with something new," he said.

"I think it would have suited us more to have played an Asia pair, but they played a great match."

"We would have taken a silver before this tournament. We've never won a medal before.

China's Lin Dan came from a game down to beat fellow countryman Bao Chunlai 18-21 21-17 21-12 in the men's singles final.

A year ago Lin finished runner-up to Indonesia's Taufik Hidayat in the final, but this year he has been in sparkling form, winning in Hong Kong, Macau and Taipei in recent months.
