The Sharks now face the unbeaten London Cobras in the last eight
The Cornish Sharks won a play-off game for the first time in the club's history after beating the Peterborough Saxons 9-6 with a last gasp field goal.
With just four seconds remaining Kiell Purell stepped up to make the kick from the 42-yard line to ensure a 9-6 win.
The Sharks went 6-0 behind after a first quarter touchdown, but wide receiver David Kriern got a score of his own in the next quarter.
Both defences dominated the second half until the Sharks got their late winner.
The Sharks were still 68 yards out from goal with two minutes to go in the final quarter.
With the penultimate play head coach Brian Smallworth tricked the Saxons into thinking his side would run the ball, but instead threw to Durban Matthews who made a 20-yard reception and set up the final field goal.
I have never seen so many tears of joy in all the games in which I have been involved.
Cornish Sharks head coach Brian Smallworth
"Having lost the first round play-off game last year in our first year to achieve the play-offs in our second and improve by progressing to the quarter finals is a dream come true and a superb achievement by everyone in the Cornish Sharks," Smallworth said.
"I have never seen so many tears of joy in all the games in which I have been involved. It was a fantastic journey home and I am proud of every one of them," he added.
But the Sharks know they will have to up their game considerably if they are to make it to the last four of the second division play-offs.
They face the London Cobras, who won all 10 of their regular season games, including an 18-0 win over the Sharks last month at Newquay.
