The Sharks came close to beating South Wales in May
The Cornish Sharks are celebrating becoming the first team to beat the South Wales Warriors this season.
The Newquay-based side beat the Warriors 6-0, scoring the only touchdown of the match.
The score came 10 minutes into the match when Ricky Tanner caught a pass and ran 37 yards for the touchdown.
The win means the Sharks, who are second in the BAFL Division Two's South West Conference, close the gap to one game on the Warriors.
Despite pressure from the Warriors throughout the match the Sharks defence held firm to record their third shutout of the season.
"I am proud of their performance, especially defeating such a good team - people will have to start taking us more seriously," said head coach Brian Smallworth.
"We always knew this would be a tough game and prepared well.
"Having lost our first game to the Warriors at such a close margin, we knew this would go down to the wire.
"The weather conditions were atrocious.
"We also knew from the conditions that it would be a short passing game and the majority of the plays would be running, so we took away their passing game which meant they had to run, and we held them to under 80 yards all day with some outstanding defence," he added.
The Welsh side have won the title for the past four years and the win comes after the Sharks came within a whisker of beating them in Cardiff in May before losing 7-3.
