Newquay surfer Alan Stokes was on top form to claim the Sri Lanka Champion of Champions title at Arugam Bay.

Stokes beat South Africa's Reubin Pearce into second place, with Woolacombe's Stuart Campbell in third.

Stokes also claimed the highest scoring wave of the day, with a 9.50 in the semi-finals.

The women's final was won by Welsh surfer Beth Mason, who overcame her compatriot Gwen Spurlock by just 0.77 points to claim the title.

Stokes, who won the UK Pro Surf Tour championship in 2009, said: "I am ecstatic to have won this event.

"After coming second last year and in previous years, it feels like it has been a long time coming.

"It has been really nice to have an event with great waves and a really cool atmosphere."
