Sheffield United sign Plymouth Argyle's Simon Walton
Walton made 33 appearances for Crewe Alexandra last season
Sheffield United have signed Plymouth Argyle utility man Simon Walton on a season-long loan.
The 22-year-old, who spent most of last season on loan at Crewe, began his career at Leeds where he worked with current Blades boss Kevin Blackwell.
"His arrival helps us put together a squad we can work with," Blackwell told the club's website.
"Last season we often got caught out when injuries occurred and we had to use far too many loans."
Walton is the Blades' fifth signing of the summer following the arrivals of Leon Britton, Johannes Ertl, Daniel Bogdanovich and Steve Simonsen.
Blackwell added: "With Walton and Ertl both able to play in a couple of positions we have more flexibility and can just dip into the loan market when we need to."
Plymouth have the option to recall Walton in January, but United have the option to match any bid that Argyle receive for the former Charlton man.
