Alan Stokes learnt to surf at Fistral Beach in Newquay

Newquay's Alan Stokes has been crowned the UK Pro Surf Tour champion after a fine performance at the Newquay Open.

Stokes beat title rivals Tom Butler and Reubyn Ash in the semi-finals on Sunday, giving him the vital championship points needed for the win.

Stokes previously won the UK Pro Surf Tour title back in 2004.

The women's title was won by Welsh surfer Gwen Spurlock, who has already picked up the Welsh Junior and British Junior titles in 2009.

The Newquay Open event winners were South African Reubin Pearce and Looe's Gabi Rowe.
