Watergate Bay will host round one of the 2010 Kitesurfing Championship |
Cornish kitesurfer Denzil Williams gets his 2010 season underway on home soil this weekend in Watergate Bay. Williams, the current British course racing champion, will be competing against the country's top kitesurfers in round one of the 2010 championship. The event, which starts on Friday, will see competitors racing around a triangular course set around the Bay. Williams said: "The standard is so high that just one mistake can make the difference between winning and losing." | To win races requires fitness, strong legs, the right equipment and more often than not a good bit of luck |
He added: "You can have up to 30 people in a race, and everyone is trying to time their run so they hit the start line at the same time. It can be chaos and occasionally people's kites get tangled. "To win races requires fitness, strong legs, the right equipment and more often than not a good bit of luck as well." Joining Williams at the season's opener will be Exmouth's Steph Bridge, the current women's world course racing champion.
