Elms is now in strong contention for selection for the GB team |
Jersey surfer Nathan Elms claimed two third places at the British Junior Surf Championships at Fistral Beach, Newquay on Sunday. Elms won the bronze in the Under-16 and Under-18 divisions and was best placed of the strong Jersey contingent. Ben Bates finished fourth in the Under-14s, with Matt Chapman and Hayden Bishop going out in the semi-finals. Jersey Surfboard Club president Dave Ferguson was pleased with the results of the team. "I'm delighted for the team as a whole, particularly for Hayden (Bishop) who is at his first National Championships," he said. Ferguson said he did expect a lot from the senior members of the team. "It's where he (Elms) was expected to come, Matt Chapman should have made finals as well," he added. Elms now has a strong chance of making the Great Britain team for the World Junior Championships being held in New Zealand in January next year.
