Surfer Ben Skinner has notched up another success on the international circuit with a triumph in the first event of the European Longboard Tour.

Newquay-based Skinner was on good form in Spain and came away with a win in the men's final.

The 24-year-old also secured a wild card for the World Longboard Tour.

Skinner has been Europe's number one longboarder since 2007 and the year before he won a silver medal in the World Surfing Games.

He only decided to take part in the event a week before and was pleased with how he performed.

"My Pro Tapia result was right up there with the best of them," he said.

"I achieved near-perfect scores throughout the event and it's a huge step along the road to my ultimate ambition of becoming a world champion."

Skinner dominated the Spanish event in consistent 5ft waves to defeat Frenchman Alexis Deniel in the final.

In the 30-minute decider, he posted both the highest wave score and heat result.
