The north-eastern Chinese city of Harbin is considering making a bid to host the 2014 Winter Olympics, having failed to win the 2002 Games. The city is the capital of Heilongjiang province and is hosting the 2009 Winter Universiade University Games.
"The successful bid for the Universiade has laid the foundation for further efforts to host a Winter Olympics," said spokesman Zhang Xinsheng.
Pyeongchang and Salzburg are the only other confirmed candidates so far.
