Salzburg is Austria's candidate to host the 2014 Winter Olympics, the Austrian Olympic Committee said on Monday. The city in Austria's western Alps was a candidate to stage the 2010 Games but lost out to Vancouver, Canada.
"Salzburg gets the opportunity to become the centre of attention for sports and the world," said sports minister Alexandra Natmessnig.
The 1964 and 1976 winter Olympics were held in Innsbruck, Austria. The 2006 event will be staged in Turin, Italy.
Other cities bidding to host the 2010 games include Pyeongchang, South Korea, Sweden's Ostersund, China's Harbin, the Bulgaria capital Sofia and Munich in Germany.
The deadline for bids is 28 July and the International Olympic Committee will announce the finalists in June 2006 and winner in June 2007.
