Ben Hawes is not part of Jason Lee's plans this autumn |
Acting England coach Jason Lee has selected nine new caps for the two matches against Belgium next month. Following a spate of retirements, only four members of the Olympic squad are named in the 24, with Simon Mason, Ben Hawes and Brett Garrard overlooked.
Hockey is set for major change over the next few months with the appointment of a new chief performance officer and men's and women's head coaches.
And there are plans to field a GB side in all but the European championships.
Lee explained: "These games are being used to look at a large group of athletes and they will be judged in these games as well as their performances for their clubs.
"There's a group of about 35 and a training squad of about 24 should be picked by Christmas.
"The two priorities for me are to get the programme started for the European Nations Cup and identify a group for the next head coach."
The matches against Belgium are being played at Bisham Abbey on 3 and 4 November.
