Mason has 63 caps for Great Britain |
Great Britain goalkeeper Simon Mason could quit international hockey if plans to help them prepare for the next Olympics are not approved. Britain finished ninth in Athens, their worst finish for 36 years, but hope to approve a plan for the team to play more regularly ahead of Beijing.
Asked if he may quit if it does not happen, Mason told BBC Sport: "Totally.
"If the system doesn't change it does not offer much in terms of performance aspirations for the athletes."
Mason, who has 63 GB caps and has played at three Olympics without winning a medal, issued a passionate statement pleading for the sport's domestic bodies to work together to improve British Olympic hopes.

"I believe that despite our best efforts as individuals we have worked in a structure that has not helped us," it read.
"I do not just want to collect tracksuits, athletes want to win, to succeed, to get a medal at an Olympic Games."
The issue revolves around a move by the Great Britain Olympic Hockey Board asking the International Hockey Federation (FIH) if they can compete as a team more regularly in major competitions.
The proposal met with a mixed response among the home nations, who fear what ramifications it could have on their participation as individual countries in various competitions.
But Mason says the bodies must approve the plan in time for the FIH congress at the end of November.
"I'm just trying to make people make a decision about whether they want Olympic success," he added.
"If we leave it another six months we may miss a number of opportunities that may cost us in the long run."
"I think it would be criminal to remove the opportunity for athletes to compete at an Olympics because of politics."
