The GB eight has been revamped since the Sydney Olympics |
Britain's men's eight eased through to the semi-finals of the World Championships in Milan by winning their heat on Tuesday. The GB team looked in fine form, leading from the front over the 2,000 metre course at Lake Idroscalo to finish ahead of Egypt and Italy.
A top-seven finish in the final of the event will grant them qualification for next year's Olympic Games in Athens.
Crew man Ed Coode said: "The race today was really how we wanted it. Medals are going to be hard to come by but it's Olympic qualifying that's important for us."
All the British crews have now qualified for the semi-finals including Pete Gardner in the men's sculls, Alex Beever in the women's event and Cath Bishop and Katharine Grainger who won their repechage of the women's pairs.
