Casey and Langlands won bronze last year in Seville |
Helen Casey and Tracy Langlands eased to victory in their heat of the lightweight double sculls at the World Championships in Milan. Poland finished second and China third.
The British pair led from start to finish and looked comfortable as they came home in seven minutes 14.14 seconds over the 2,000 metre course.
It means a direct path to the semi-finals on Thursday for the GB duo, who are looking to improve on the bronze medal they won last year in Seville.
"We expected China to be the main opposition but obviously the Poles are a crew to watch. It was a good start to the whole competition," said Casey.
The men's coxed four also won their heat to qualify direct for Sunday's final but the rest of the GB squad now have to qualify via the repechages later in the week.
