Pinsent and Cracknell are looking for revenge for their May defeat |
British duo Matthew Pinsent and James Cracknell have eased into the semi-finals of the coxless pairs at the world rowing championships in Italy. The pair won their heat and a place alongside Croatian brothers Sinisa and Niksa Skelin, and Italians Giuseppe De Vita and Dario Lari.
In May, the Croats and Italians stunned the British into third at a World Cup regatta on the same Idroscalo lake.
Pinsent has won three Olympic gold medals and 10 world titles, and he and Cracknell have been a team since 2000.
Elsewhere, New Zealand twins Georgina and Caroline Evers Swindell won their women's double sculls heat to advance to the semi-finals.
And world and Olympic champions Georgeta Andrunache and Viorica Susanu of Romania progressed with ease into the women's pairs semis.
Munich will host the 2007 World Rowing Championships, the sport's governing body said Sunday. The southern German city beat Aiguebelette - a natural lake in the eastern Savoy region of France - in a vote at the International Rowing Federation congress in Milan, Italy.
The federation awarded the 2007 junior world championships to Beijing.
