Fencing official lands ban
| | Hungarian fencing referee Joszef Hidasi has been suspended for two years after criticism of his display in the men's foil final, in which Italy beat China. Hidasi was dropped by the International Fencing Federation (Fie) and has been banned from future Olympics. Fie said in a statement that he made four clear mistakes in the second bout and two mistakes in the fifth. "These mistakes are heavy and against the good reputation of our sport", said Fie president Rene Roch.
