Italy's world number one fencer Andrea Cassara swept Britain's Richard Kruse aside with a 15-8 win to reach the semi-finals of the men's foil. Cassara eased into a commanding 7-0 lead before Kruse fought back with four points in a row.
But Cassara was unruffled and the 20-year-old turned on the style again to earn a comfortable win.
The 20-year-old will face France's Brice Guyart after his 15-12 win over Germany's Peter Joppich.
Italy will have two fencers in the semi-finals after Salvatore Sanzo also progressed to the last four thanks to a 15-10 win over China's Wu Hanxiong. But another Italian, Simone Vanni, was beaten by Russia's 18-year-old Renal Ganeev 15-14.
