And Guo Yue picked up the bronze medal with a 11-6 14-12 9-11 7-11 11-3 11-4 defeat of Singapore's Li Jia Wei. The host country had already won the women's team competition. Zhang's gold was her fourth in her third Olympics, equally the great Deng Yaping's medal haul. China have never lost the women's singles crown since the sport was introduced at the 1988 Olympics.
