Athens table tennis champion Ryu Seung Min lost in his first match in Beijing, to Hong Kong's Ko Lai Chak. The South Korean fought back from three games down in the third-round clash to win the next two but Ko took the sixth to win 11-7 11-8 11-6 4-11 5-11 12-10. China's world number one Wang Hao won in four straight sets to knock out Austrian Chen Weixing. One of Europe's top hopes, Vladimir Samsonov of Belarus, eased through 4-0 against Germany's Christian Suss.
