Josh Band (right) continues to climb the UK rankings |
Jersey table tennis player Josh Band has risen to number 31 in the UK rankings for the under-15s age group. The 14-year-old, who was part of the Jersey team which took part in the 2008 World Team Championships in China, has gained 1070 ranking points. He will be hoping to amass more points when he competes in the Cheltenham four star junior tournament on 5-6 April. Band will be joined by fellow islander Luke Walker, 15, who is ranked just outside the UK's top 250 under-18s. Two other Jersey juniors feature in the latest UK rankings. Hugo Tupper is number 38 in the under-13s age group and his brother Max is ranked 66 in the under-15s. "The achievement of these four youngsters is remarkable because they only compete in a fraction of the tournaments that their counterparts do in the UK due to logistics," said the Jersey Table Tennis Association president Chris Band.
