Jersey table tennis player Josh Band has become the first islander to win a nationally-recognised tournament.

The promising 14-year-old won the Derby four-star Under-15s title after beating top Welsh player Huw Jones 11-6 11-4 11-4 in the final.

Band lost just two games during the entire tournament.

The teenager was part of the Jersey team which played in last month's World Team Championships in China, where they lost all five matches.
