Watch Tom Daley's six dives to win World Championship gold in 2009

Beijing Olympian Tom Daley heads a 40-strong Great Britain team from 16 Olympic sports for next month's first Youth Olympic Games in Singapore.

A total of 3,600 youngsters aged 14-18 from 205 National Olympic Committees will compete between 14-26 August.

They will take part in a schedule which includes all 26 sports on the London 2012 Olympic programme.

Also named on the team are athlete Victoria Ohuruogu and Wimbledon junior boys semi-finalist Oliver Golding.

Ohuruogu, the 400m England indoor Under-20 champion, is the younger sister of current Olympic 400m Champion Christine.

She is joined by 12 others on the athletics team, including fellow Londoner David Bolarinwa, who won gold and silver in the 100m and 200m at the recent European Youth Olympic trials in Moscow.

Daley, the 2009 World and 2008 European 10m platform diving champion, was Team GB's youngest competitor in Beijing while Golding, the current British Under-18 number one will be aiming to build on his excellent display at Wimbledon.

Gymnast Sam Oldham will be looking to continue the form which saw him achieve a hat-trick of gold medals at the European Junior Championships in Birmingham earlier this year.

Northern Ireland archery star Mark Nesbitt will be aiming for more success after claiming double gold for Team GB at the 2009 Australian Olympic Festival and silver at both the World and European Junior Championships in 2009.

Nesbitt was also recently named in the Northern Ireland team for October's Commonwealth Games in Delhi.

Team GB Youth Olympic Games chef de mission Jan Paterson said it was a huge privilege to take a talented group of young athletes to the inaugural games.

"I'm confident that we will see some exciting performances and the athletes will display skill, determination and pride to achieve their personal best for Team GB in Singapore," she added.

The athletes will be joined in Singapore by 1,450 officials, 1,500 media representatives, 20,000 local and international volunteers, and more than 370,000 spectators.

The International Olympic Committee hopes the competition will inspire young people around the the world to participate in sport and to embrace the Olympic values.

As well as sport, the athletes in Singapore will take part in a culture and education programme.
