Double Olympic gold medalist Rebecca Addlington insists success at this summer's World Championships in Rome cannot be taken for granted.
Adlington stormed to the 800m freestyle title at the British Swimming Championships this week but says she will not become complacent.
The 20-year-old said: "It's not just me and Jo Jackson and then the rest of the world 10 seconds behind.
"If we get caught up thinking that then someone else is going to come past us."
Despite not being in peak condition in Sheffield, Adlington was just 4.76 seconds outside the 800m world record she set at the Beijing Olympics last August.
And Adlington says she has all the motivation she needs to keep on improving.
"Every single morning I get up I know that someone else in the world is doing exactly the same, so I've got to get up and swim a bit faster than her," she added.
"You know that's what you have to do to be the best. I feel guilty if I don't do it.
"There's still Katie Hoff in America, still (Federica) Pellegrini in Italy, still swimmers all around the world that will equally do the same time if not faster."
