Haywood was a finalist at the World Championships two years ago |
Lincoln's Kate Haywood has qualified for the World Swimming Championships in Rome by retaining her British 100m breaststroke title in Sheffield. Haywood, 21, set a time of 1:08.59 in the final, a second outside her personal best. She said: "I'd have liked to have gone quicker but I did what I had to, I won here and got my ticket to Rome. "Now I can focus on my training and hopefully qualify for the 50m and get on the medley relay team too." In the last world long-course championships in Melbourne two years ago Haywood was seventh in both the 50m and 100m breaststroke.
