Darren Rooney of Laois challenges Tyrone's Owen Mulligan |
Late points from full-forward Colm McCullagh and wing-back Davy Harte gave Tyrone their first win of the 2008 National League campaign. Tyrone enjoyed a super start, getting the fist five points through Owen Mulligan (2), McCullagh, Harte and Raymond Mulgrew.
Laois hit back but scores from Collie Holmes, Sean Cavanagh and Mulligan had Tyrone 0-8 to 0-5 ahead at half-time.
Brian McGuigan made his Tyrone comeback as a second-half substitute.
The talented playmaker, who had been out of action since May 2007 because a serious eye injury, came on for Ryan Mellon and got a great reception.
McGuigan's last appearance for his county was in the 2005 All-Ireland final.
The only sour note from a Tyrone point of view was the back injury sustained by Mulligan in the second half.
He had to go off and was replaced by Niall Gormley.
