Grimley quits as Cavan assistant
Paul Grimley
Paul Grimley resigned as Armagh assistant manager in 2006
Paul Grimley has resigned as assistant manager of Cavan and has emerged as a leading candidate to succeed Joe Kernan as Armagh boss.

Grimley, who was assistant to Kernan before resigning in 2006, was one of four men interviewed for the manager's job by the Armagh county board.

A decision has yet to be announced but it is believed to be a two-horse race between Grimley and Peter McDonnell.

Mullaghbawn man McDonnell guided Armagh Under-21s to this year's Ulster title.

John Rafferty and Michael McConville were the other interviewees.

A statement from Cavan read: "Paul Grimley has resigned as Cavan assistant manager to pursue his challenge to become Armagh senior boss.

"Paul was instrumental in Cavan's promotion to Division Two and will be missed by Donel Keogan and his team."
