Geoffrey McGonigle's 1-6 tally was vital for Kevin Lynchs |
Kevin Lynchs qualified for an AIB Ulster Club Final meeting against Cushendall by edging out Portaferry 1-12 to 0-11 in Sunday's semi-final. Geoffrey McGonigle hit the crucial goal early in the second half and the veteran notched 1-6 for the winners.
Portaferry led 0-7 to 0-6 at the interval before Kevin Lynchs' 1-2 without reply turned the game.
The absence of Paul Braniff, Barry Coleman, Gerard McGrattan and Emmett Trainor was keenly felt by Portaferry.
Braniff, Coleman and McGrattan are all injured while Trainor is on honeymoon.
Andy Savage had a tremendous game for Portaferry and his two points kept the Down champions in with a chance as the game entered its final stages.
However, points from Peter McCloskey and Padraig McCloskey made the game safe for the Dungiven men.
Kevin Lynchs are attempting to become the first ever Derry winners of the Ulster Club Hurling title.
