New boss Brian McIver has brought in several Glenties players |
Donegal boss Brian McIver is hoping Glenties trio Leon Thompson, Anton Thompson and Brendan McDyre will help plug the gap left by Brendan Devenney. The new manager's training regime began a month ago and McIver expresses himself "fairly happy" with what he has seen so far.
"We brought a few of the Glenties boys in after the club's county championship win," said McIver.
Devenney quit the intercounty scene before McIver's appointment.
The St Eunan's clubman did hold discussions with McIver but told the new manager that he was unable to commit himself to the squad for 2006 become of work commitments.
Brian Roper has been unable to train with the squad over the past month because of a groin injury although he is hoping to resume training in the New Year.
"But apart from Brendan and Brian, basically all the other members of last year's panel have been training.
"In addition to the two Thompsons and Brendan McDyre, we have also brought in Paddy Campbell and Tom Donohue from Glenties.
"We have an extended panel at the moment so we're looking at quite a few players.
"We've played a few challenge games and a few internal games and I've been happy enough with the way things have been going so far."
Donegal open their 2006 season with a McKenna Cup game against St Mary's College at Ballyshannon on 8 January.
