Derry have little bit extra
Paddy Bradley steered Derry into the third round of the All-Ireland qualifiers following a deserved extra-time victory over Cavan.

But it took a fisted point by Derry's Niall McCusker at the end of normal time to rescue his side in levelling at Cavan 2-09 and Derry 0-15.

But with Bradley at the helm, Derry scored no fewer than 10 unanswered points in extra-time to coast home.

Bradley contributed 10 points with Enda Muldoon chipping in with seven.

But it all could have been so different after Cavan were given a lifeline in the 30th minute when Derry keeper Barry Gillis saw his pass intercepted by Gerald Pearson who promptly banged the ball into the net.

Derry had shot six wides by this stage and were coasting. But all of a sudden they found themselves behind, but managed to level by half-time.

With the superb Fergal Doherty orchestrating the side from midfield, Derry again stretched away at the start of the second half with Muldoon rattling over three points.

Once again Cavan came back with a goal, this time Jason Reilly on target in the 52nd minute to back to up points by the excellent Micheal Lyng and Mark McKeever.

Pearson and then McKeever in the 62nd minute put Cavan two points ahead.

There is still a lot of work yet to be done.
Enda Muldoon
But that, unbelievably, was the last point with Cavan registered in the game as Derry fought back to equalise in normal time, and then completely stroll through extra-time.

''We will not get too carried away with that result,'' said forward Enda Muldoon. ''There is still a lot of work yet to be done.

''It's nice beating Cavan by that score, but it didn't really reflect the game.

''It was a good all-round performance by us. We worked very hard. We were behind a couple of times and fought back well.

''Fergal Doherty had a great game. Everyone in the country knows what a superb player. He certainly proved today that he is one of the best.

''Hopefully him and Paddy Bradley in midfield can keep up the performances and lead us on to better things.''
