Mickey Moran praissed Derry's commitment against Cavan |
Derry manager Mickey Moran praised his side after their deserved extra-time victory over Cavan at Celtic Park. The Oak Leafs 0-25 to 2-09 victory takes them into the third round All-Ireland qualifiers and Moran said his side showed great commitment.
''The boys showed tremendous conviction to come back particularly when we were two points down at the end,'' he said.
''We came back from the dead and the rest is history. I am really delighted for the players.''
Moran talked of the way the team put the criticism after the Tyrone defeat behind them.
''The team were so determined to erase the memory of that Tyrone defeat,'' he told BBC Sport. ''I'm so happy for the players in the way they showed great character.
''They took some deserved criticism after the Tyrone match, but not as much as they should have done.
''It's funny but I saw a notice on a religious board on Saturday saying about being buried and rising again. We certainly rose today.

''I'm now just glad that the people can see that the Derry players have got character, backbone, commitment and determination.
''There was all this talk about Eamonn Coleman and myself as managers, but it was all about the players, and they were simply superb.
''I made Paddy Bradley captain for the game. He was offered money to to America, but he said he wanted to stay and play for Derry. That's loyalty.
''I said to him about that loyalty, and he spoke to the players about character.
''We didn't hang back, we went for it in extra-time. Now it's back to the drawing board. There is still some work to do.
''But they players can now enjoy the night, they deserve it.''
