Fears over Setanta O hAilpin's fitness for the International Rules Series were further dispelled on Sunday. O hAilpin, who was suffering from a sttress facture to the foot, made his hurling return on Sunday when he played for his club Na Piarsaigh.
His elder brother Sean has been called up by Ireland manager Pete McGrath who earlier also called-up Galway's Joe Bergin to his injury-ravaged squad.
McGrath has lost the services of skipper Padraig Joyce, Anthony Lynch, Barry Owens and Ryan McMenamin.
But the news that O hAilpin has been given the all clear is a major fillip to the Ireland squad who are looking for revenge for last year's defeat in the two Tests.
O hAilpin made headlines after he signed for AFL side Carlton in Australia just over 10 months ago.
He has been closely moitored by the Ireland medical team who gave the thumbs-up for the player to start training again.
